To all Wing members and friends
LETTER from Doug Arnold, President, 404 K-W Wing RCAFA
I hope that everyone is well and staying safe. It certainly appears that this COVID 19 virus is going to be around for a long time, and it is important that everyone do everything they can to protect each other. The executive met on July 21st to discuss the reopening of the Wing and with the above in mind, the decision was made that the Wing will remain closed until at least September 1st as the executive felt that the Wing could not be opened safely at this time. This was not an easy decision for the executive to make realizing that there are some members who would like to be able to drop in the Wing. However, the executive felt they could not in good conscience open the Wing and risk anyone becoming ill. The executive will meet again prior to September 1st and assess the situation at that time and everyone is hopeful that this will be the date the 404 Wing will open with all the necessary safety guidelines in place.
The Senior Executive has been meeting regularly during the shutdown, to ensure that the Wing business is overseen. Some of the issues have been ensuring bills are paid, there have been a couple of security issues when someone broke into the 404 Wing and Canoe Club storage sheds, working on a plan to safely reopen the Wing, working with city officials regarding city concerns, interactions and communications with National and Regional groups, to name a few. The Senior Executive will continue to meet and the whole executive will meet, as necessary. I especially want to extend my thanks and the thanks of the Wing to Larry Alleson who visits the Wing often to check that there are no problems, and this also meets with the insurance requirements.
We have lost a few 404 Wing MEMBERS and 404 Wing Auxiliary members since the Wing has been closed due to this awful virus, and our thoughts and prayers go out to their families. It is so unfortunate that we cannot pay our respects in person at this time, however please know that we are thinking of you at this trying time. Please see the list of those who have passed in the newsletter.
Please continue to stay safe and be assured that as soon as your executive is confident that the Wing can be reopened in a safe manner and in compliance with the Provincial and City guidelines it will be. Your executive is as anxious to reopen the Wing to the membership as the membership is to see it reopened.
Warmest Regards, Doug
.
